About this tool

Image Glitch Tool lets you open a JPG and create a corrupted, glitchy version in your browser. Adjust the controls, then save the result when you like it.

How the effect works

JPEG files are made of bytes. The glitch process changes selected bytes in the compressed image data, so the decoder interprets parts of the picture differently while the rest of the image remains recognizable.

Inspired by an old Flash experiment

This project is inspired by Georg's original JPG Glitch experiment, which explored the surprising patterns produced by corrupting JPEG data in Flash.
